*Golden Sand Bay at Chipei's Shawei

The Shawei bay in Chipei is famous for a golden sand beach extending several kilometers. An extremely inviting location, it now features a wide variety of recreational activities. You can easily spend a whole afternoon with the fun-filled activities in the summer.¡@ ¡@

Chipei Island is about 20 minutes from Chikan or Holiao by boat.

 

* Lighthouse on Mudo Island

Mudo Island is located north of the Chipei Island and the northernmost tip of the Penghu Archipelagos. The waters by this island is filled with coral reefs, making it exceedingly dangerous for boats passing by these waters. Shipwreck and other accidents used to be common, which brought about the construction of this lighthouse. ¡@

The black and white lighthouse stands about 40 meters tall. The facility below it is all painted white. Standing tall on dark basalt rocks, it presents an air of the almighty and all-powerful.¡@ ¡@

The waters between Chipei and Mudo Islands are clear and often around one meter deep only. Tropical fish abound among the coral reefs, making it a natural aquarium. ¡@

 

* Dayi Temple

Dayi Temple is lcoated in the Chuwan Community in Hsiyu. It worships the deity of Kuankung, a famous general in ancient Chinese history. Legend has it that during the French invasion of Penghu, Kuankung kicked away the French canon and protected the village people. There is a very lively sculpture of Kuankung riding on his horse waited by his page. The temple's interior presents a solemn atmosphere.¡@ ¡@

There is a cave in the basement of Dayi Temple. The long and crooked cave houses a fountain of wishes where there is a huge sea turtle. Don't forget to toss a coin and make a wish during your next visit. Your wishes may come true.

 

* Whale Cave at Hsiaomen

The Hsiaomen Island is often nicknamed the pearl of Homen. It is located on the north tip of the Fishermen Island and connected with it by Hsiaomen Bridge. It is a square shaped island formed by basalt rock. The scenery common in Penghu can all be found on this island, including wild daisies, beehive field, Hsiyu hat, veiled ladies, pillar shaped basalt formations, white sandy beaches and houses built with coral stones. It is an epitome of Penghu ¡@ ¡@ ¡@

The famed whale cave is located on the northwest coast of the island. The basalt rock formations form a cliff facing the ocean, where a huge cave was formed through erosion by the ocean. On a hot summer day, a visit to the cave to listen to the waves and wade through the waters is a refreshing experience.

 

* Deity Footstep on the Tientai Mountain

The Wanan Island is 18 nautical miles from Mukung, or 90 minutes by boat. It is one of the islands producing the famed streak stones in Penghu. Tientai Mountain is the highest point on the island. There is a giant rock on the mountain top. Legend has it that the rock is actually the footstep left by one of the eight deities, Tongbin Lyu.

The wide and flat meadows around it make a natural grazing field. Cattle can be spotted grazing on these meadows. The west coast is a formidable cliff of basalt rock. Matched with a natural bay, it is a paradise on earth. Its nickname of a "honeymoon" island does not come from nothing.¡@

 

 

* The General Cove Island

This island is on the southeast of Wanan Island and only one nautical mile from it. It is one of the villages of the Wanan Towhship. Though a tiny island, it is packed with houses, wining it the nickname of "little Hong Kong." ¡@ ¡@

The three temples on the island-General Temple, Yongan Temple and Tienho Temple-form the religious center on the island. The intricate style of these temples demonstrates the wealth of this tiny village. ¡@ ¡@

The Sail Rock Island to the east is named after the giant sail shaped rock. It is connected to the General Cove Island at low tides. Anyway you look at it, near or far, it is a magnificent rock full of romantic colors.
