*Sheli Beach

Sheli Beach is located in the bay south of the Shamau Mountain. The white sandy beach extends one kilometer and covers an area of 2100 square meters. With its bright and shiny white sands formed from large coral relics and shells, it is the best natural beach for water activities in Penghu. With its shallow and clear water and soft sands, it is perfect for water sports. The blue sky and ocean make it even more enjoyable. There are also facilities for camping, picnicking and parties at night.

*The sunken city at Huching

The Huching Island is about seven nautical miles from Makung, or 25 minutes by boat. The center of the island is low and flat while basalt rock pillars rise high on the east and west coasts. At low tides, the ocean view shows shallow and clear waters, making it one of the eight major attractions of Penghu-Clear Cave at Huching. It is said that there is a sunken city underneath the clear cave. On a clear day, visitors can still see the red brick city built by Dutch settlers. The tides come and go. Though the tale of the sunken city remains a mystery, the beautiful ocean view at Huching is still very attractive. ¡@

 

 

*Rock formations at Tongpan

Tongpan Island is about six nautical miles from Makung, or 20 minutes by boat. It is named after its shape of a barrel. The pillar shaped basalt rock formations that create a unique attraction in the Yellow Stone National Park of U.S. are even more evident in Penghu. The entire island is surrounded by these basalt rock formations, making it the island with most basalt rock formations in all of Penghu. The cliffs of these rock formations make them even more magnificent. ¡@

The waters around Tongpan are also rich in fish. Colorful tropical fish swim among the coral reefs, forming a charming picture under the sea and making it the paradise for divers.

The Fuhei Temple is one of the most famous temples in Penghu, with intricate architecture with golden plated exterior. Though situated in a far away corner at sea, it has a unusually large number of worshipers.

 

*Linto forest

Linto Park is located in the coastal area of Linto Village in Huhsi Township and noted for its manmade forest. It is now a designated scenic area. The large number of trees and blooming flowerbeds are a rare scene in Penghu. The park also includes facilities for camping area, lotus pond and bird park. Beyond the forest is a white sandy beach that opens your heart with its wide horizon. ¡@

Unfortunately, the forest was partially destroyed by Typhoon Wayne in 1986 and has not fully recovered from it since. ¡@ ¡@

The Soldiers Cemetery is located on the west side of Linto Park. There is a memorial tower dedicated to those who have sacrificed for the country. Various public projects and a plant cultivation project are currently under works in Linto Park. The return to its prime days can be expected soon.

 

*Baisha Bay

There is a water amusement park about two acres at the bay south of the Chenhei Village of Baisha Township. The park entrance is decorated with carriage wheels and pottery, simple and not cliche. The park has a swimming pool, camping area, wading pond and restaurant. It is an ideal place for both tour and recreation. Spend an easy afternoon in this park of numbers creations lying on a comfortable boat deck and enjoy the beautiful sunset. You will be amazed by the fun and joy of it.

 

*The ancient Banyan tree at Tongliang

The famous huge Banyan tree stands right in front of the Bauan Temple in Tongliang Village of Baisha Township. It is over three hundred years old now. Legend has it that a commercial ship passed by Penghu during Emperor Kanghsi's rule. It sank before passing through the Homen channel in Tongliang. Only a banyan seedling floated to the coast. It was picked by local people and planted in front of the temple. After some 300 years, its foliage has covered an area of 660 square meters.@ ¡@

Penghu is a land difficult for tree growth. The giant tree with huge foliage adds much color to the legend and has become one of the symbols of Penghu.
