Cultural Events and Symbol (2)

Penghu is located in the buffer zone between Taiwan and Mainland China. It has been a strategic site since the early days of its history. It is also the midway island of migrating people. The cultural relics are proofs of the footsteps of the pioneering ancestors for the past several hundred years. They also tell the tales of Chinese people's hard work and diligence. The oldest temple in Taiwan area-Tienho Temple-is also the center of religious belief of Penghu's residents. The intricate sculpture and paintings inside the temple and refined architectural style present a simple yet graceful and delicate style. However, as a poet once lamented, "though ancient tunes still sound lovely, few people play them nowadays." The pillars of the temple are showing patches, which seem to murmur the hardship, tears and endless sorrow of the past few hundred years.

You can also visit other attractions on the way such as Four-eye Well, Shuencheng Gate, Kuanyin Pavilion, Shekung Temple and Wanchuan Well. These military relics still stand tall after all these years to tell tales of the courageous times bygone.
