2. Dried
seafood
- Dried
sardines-They are a famous local treat. They are made
by drying sardines under the sun. The east side of the
Great Aunt Island is the most famous sardine drying site
of all.
- Dried
squid-Summer is the season for fishing squids. Fishermen
use lights to attract squids at night. Dried squids have
a distinctive flavor.
- Seaweed-The
seaweed right by the coast platform on the north side
of the Great Aunt Island becomes ripe for harvest during
November and December of the Lunar calendar. It can be
harvested two to three times in a winter. Dried and processed
into sheets of seaweed, it is a delicious treat.
- l
Sea shells-Given the extremely crooked coastline in Penghu,
both sandy beaches and rock shores abound. Both are the
habitats favored by shells.
The
known species of shells found in Penghu total over 1,200,
20 of which are commonly consumed by local residents. The
rest is used as raw materials for handicrafts or made into
specimen.
