The Paradise for Sea Birds
Penghu
is the stopover spot for migrating birds in the Southeast region.
Many endangered and rare migrating birds have been spotted in Penghu
in recent years. These sea birds have become one of the most important
natural resources in Penghu's development of tourism. There are
a total of 206 bird species in and around Penghu. In the South S ea
region, they are primarily distributed around the Cat Island and
nearby uninhabited islands. In particular, most summer migrating
birds reproduce on the Cat Island. On the main island, they are
mostly found in Hsinjen, Chinglo and Chengkung. The birds found
in the North Sea region have gradually shifted their habitat to
Tingko Island and the nearby uninhabited islands. Most birds found
in the South Sea and North Sea are gulls. Among them, the gray swallow
gulls, green swallow gulls, red swallow gulls and white brow swallow
gulls, which are listed as protected species, are most abundant
in numbers in these two regions.
